The dinner incident

Gunfire erupted at the annual event on April 25, leaving one Secret Service agent injured and prompting agents to escort former President Donald Trump and others from the ballroom. Authorities arrested 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, Calif.; he faces at least two federal counts, and officials say a motive is not yet clear. Police believe he acted alone and say he had been staying at the Washington Hilton.

What the visit will include

Charles and Camilla travel to Washington, D.C., on April 27 for a four-day visit tied to the U.S. 250th anniversary and partnership themes. Plans include a private tea, garden party, ceremonial military review, a rare address by the King to a joint meeting of Congress, a White House state dinner, New York engagements including One World Trade Center and a King's Trust reception, plus Virginia events and a national park block party. The couple also reached out privately to Donald and Melania Trump after the incident.
