A menu fit for diplomacy

The three-course dinner began with a garden herb velouté and hearts of palm salad, followed by handcrafted spring herb ravioli using herbs from the White House Kitchen Garden and a dover sole meunière. Dessert was a beehive-shaped chocolate gâteau with vanilla bean crèmeux, almond joconde, crème fraîche ice cream and White House honey. Three wines were selected to honor U.S.-U.K. ties.

History and itinerary

The visit began April 27 with a private tea and garden party. King Charles made history as the second British monarch to address a joint meeting of Congress. The four-day trip marks America's 250th anniversary and continues to New York and Virginia before a stop in Bermuda. Ahead of the dinner, President Trump praised the king, calling him "a fantastic man."
