Comeback on the balcony
At Trooping the Colour on June 13, 2026, the Princess of Wales joined King Charles, Prince William and their three children — Prince George (12), Princess Charlotte (11) and Prince Louis (8) — in a display many saw as a statement of continuity for the monarchy.
Return after illness
Kate has been gradually resuming public duties after announcing cancer remission in early 2025. In May she made a praised trip to Italy for her early childhood work, her first overseas engagement since the diagnosis. She had also chosen Trooping in 2024 as the setting for her first royal event amid treatment.
Praise, pressure and protests
Author Catherine Mayer described Kate as the family's current "rockstar" while noting it is a "huge burden." Outside the palace some protesters carried signs about Prince Andrew and there were boos as the carriage passed, but the Princess remained composed.
