McConnell’s Response

The senator’s team released the photo showing McConnell smiling with his wife Elaine Chao and said his past polio diagnosis may relate to current issues. They stated he won’t return to the Senate floor immediately but remains at work, quoted him saying he’s not taking a break, and relayed doctors’ findings: no broken bones, concussion, heart attack, stroke, tumors or hemorrhages; he was briefly unconscious, hospitalized and treated for a mild case of pneumonia.

Senate Allies Speak Up

Allies pushed back on Loomer’s claims. Longtime adviser Scott Jennings said he spoke with McConnell for nearly 20 minutes about Iran, Ukraine and other matters, while critics questioned how substantive that conversation could be.
