These Games — held every four years and closing on Aug. 2 — are the first since the death of Queen Elizabeth in 2022 and were relocated late from Victoria, Australia to Scotland, resulting in a scaled-back programme. Athletes from all 74 Commonwealth nations are competing across 10 sports, including 3x3 basketball, artistic gymnastics, athletics, bowls, boxing, track cycling, judo, netball, swimming and weightlifting. Six disciplines also feature adaptive competitions: 3x3 basketball, athletics, bowls, track cycling, swimming and powerlifting.
King Charles and Queen Camilla opened the Games on July 23, appearing onstage at Glasgow’s Hydro in a nod to Doctor Who’s TARDIS while a youth chorus performed the national anthem. The King praised the Baton Relay and the Commonwealth communities’ dedication, thanking organisers, volunteers and athletes for bringing the event to life.
